Baker Boyer National Bank

Walla Walla, WA, 99362

The Original Bank in the Pacific Northwest... and Much More. From our founding to today, Baker Boyer’s success has been based on an entrepreneurial approach, always looking for innovative ways to add value to the businesses and communities we serve. Our founder, Dr. Dorsey Baker, was the embodiment of this, as a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist here in the Walla Walla Valley. He founded a medical practice, a mercantile, built a railroad, started a steamship company, donated the land where Whitman College resides, and of course he founded Baker Boyer National Bank. We have assembled a terrific team of Advisors with expertise in commercial lending, succession planning, asset management, estate planning, and much more. As you may have noticed, where many banks and other companies are reducing in-person services, Baker Boyer continues to prioritize personal interactions. Please explore our solutions and insights, and set up an appointment to meet us in person.

SCHOOL

Berney Elementary

Walla Walla, WA, 99362

Berney elementary originally opened its doors in 1904 as a four room school house serving students up to the eighth grade. It was a modern building with electric lights and central heating, but not running water. Berney school was named for U.H. Berney who served as chairman for the school district for over 25 years. Mr. Berney donated the land for our athletic field and the bell for the bell tower which is still in use today. Berney has a long standing tradition as a community school and we have many second and third generation Berney Bulldogs.  We have a caring and committed staff that go above and beyond to make sure that our students succeed.

City of College Place

College Place, WA, 99324

Mission: Our mission is to provide leadership and effective, fiscally responsible services that achieve our community's vision. Vision: By 2027, College Place is noted for its vibrant downtown with a mix of small businesses and housing that interfaces with Walla Walla University that give residents and a growing tourist trade the feeling of a small town. The City has attracted large-scale commercial development along its most trafficked roads, thus growing its tax base. Resourceful in the use of finance tools and grant opportunities, the City gets extra value from every dollar of local taxes. Resources support a staff of dedicated, competent employees adequate to provide safety and responsiveness. Deferred maintenance is a thing of the past as depreciation is funded and cash reserves prepare the city to pursue opportunities without excess risk. Mutual respect is shared between the City Council, residents, and staff. Residents, retirees, students, professionals, and young families feel safe; they know their neighbors and many of the city employees by name. Citizens are engaged and knowledgeable of the affairs of the City due to the character of staff and the quality, timeliness, and context through which information is shared; cooperation is a community norm. Volunteerism is high across the commissions of the City. People circulate easily irrespective of mode, whether car, foot or bike; a system of sidewalks and trails make foot traffic a preferred method to get around town. The community turns out regularly for the events calendared throughout the year, co-hosted in partnership with the municipality and institutions such as: businesses, volunteer organizations, College Place Public Schools, Rogers School, Walla Walla Valley Academy, and Walla Walla University. Values - In its expression of civic leadership and service, Council and staff hold these core values. Open and Honest - The City is transparent and fair in its dealings. It is plain spoken in its communication. The City is engaged with its citizens in two-way communication and desires an aware and informed citizenry. The municipality is accountable for its actions and choices. Cooperation - College Place works well with others and values mutually-beneficial outcomes for the City and its partners. Respect - The City fosters respect between its Council and staff, Citizens, neighbors, its natural resources and built environment, its resident businesses to bind College Place into a sustainable and prosperous community. The City honors its heritage. Service - The City exists to provide services to its constituents. It is an organized, learning organization that makes data-driven decisions. It's employees and Council are empathetic and humble. Diversity - The City recognizes differences between people and values these differences as an asset. Pioneer opened its doors to students in the fall of 1949 as the first junior high school in Walla Walla. In the fall of 1990 the philosophy and programs were revised and Pioneer opened its doors for the first time as a middle school. Throughout Pioneer’s history students, parents and staff have worked together to establish a tradition of excellence. We look forward to the continuation of this tradition through the efforts of present and future members of the Pioneer community. At Pioneer, we are a community of learners devoted to achieving excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, and as citizens of our school, community and nation. Students have numerous opportunities to explore new skills and ideas, to build confidence in themselves as learners and as people. We welcome new students and their families into our midst, looking forward to the unique contributions they will make.

RESTAURANT

Rogers Bakery and Cafe

College Place, WA, 99324

Rogers Bakery and Cafe has been a fixture in College Place, Washington for over 55 years. Started in 1962 by Russell and Ruth Rogers, the business became famous for its maple bars and apple fritters. Russell ran the operation as head baker until 1994 when he retired. The operation continued under his son, Randy, until 2002 when Lenny and Kelli Leen purchased it. In February of 2010 the building was destroyed by fire, but within a year was reopened. Painted with warm golds, greens, and purples, the new atmosphere brought a new flavor to the business but kept the same recipes for which the bakery has become famous. To this day, customers come in with memories of the 10 cent maple bars. We hope that you come down soon and enjoy a maple bar, fritter, coffee, or homemade soup and sandwich! We appreciate your patronage!

SCHOOL

Sharpstein Elementary School

Walla Walla, WA, 99362

Every morning, our students are greeted with our principal's daily morning announcements: "Good morning, Sharpstein, home of the Stompers, where our core values are COMMUNITY, INTEGRITY, and PERSEVERANCE." Sharpstein is proud to be Washington State's oldest continuously-operating school, opening in 1898. We are proud of our beautiful building and grateful our community supported renovation rather than tearing it down and starting over. Walking in to our foyer, which is built around the original stone-arched entrance, is awe-inspiring. Sharpstein is a true neighborhood school, with a compact attendance area allowing many students to walk or ride their bike to school. We are within walking distance of Whitman College and Pioneer Park, and our students are able to use these community resources to support their learning. Visiting Whitman's observatory, or Pioneer Park's aviary are experiences our students look forward to.
